Little Peppertree Preschool

Little Peppertree Preschool is located next door to Peppertree and can be accessed via a back lane as well as  East Belt.

Little Peppertree is a small, homely and welcoming Preschool licensed for 25 children from two to five years.  It is unique with strong relationships between staff, whanau and children.  Our natural outdoor environment includes real grass, a path for scooters and bikes, sandpit, lots of equipment to climb and explore, vege gardens and a covered verandah so that we can still get outside on rainy days.

The Education Review Office visited us in April 2023.  They commented on how "children experience a broad curriculum that provides meaningful opportunities to learn about sustainable practices within the kaupapa Maori concept of kaitiakitanga.  Key learning priorities include a focus on science and children developing ideas and theories about the world". "Children with additional learning needs are well supported."  For the full ERO report click here.

Our Programme

Our programme offers a balance between structured and free choice learning experiences. The monthly focus comes from the children's interests and includes dress up days, community excursions including bus trips. Each week we focus on a colour, shape, number and letter.

Our programme is based on the curriculum for early childhood centres - Te Whaariki. We provide the children with opportunities to explore the 16 areas of play. We carefully plan our indoor and outdoor environments to meet the children's individual learning goals providing them with stimulating and fun activities.

We have mini group times in the morning where the children are spilt into  age appropriate groups and the teachers prepare activities which meet the developmental needs of the children. Before lunch we gather together and then have a music and movement group time before afternoon tea.

Our Staff

We have a small team of committed staff at Little Peppertree led by our Supervisor, Emma Richards.  Emma is assisted by Amanthea, Kaitlin and Krissy.

Leah Wayland, our office manager works each morning and is based at the Peppertree Office.  Please do not hesitate to contact her for any of your admin queries.

When our staff are sick or away they are replaced by our own relieving staff.  We carefully screen relievers and train them to our high standards so that when staff are on leave our programme is administered in the same way.

Judith Carstens

"All the teachers at Little Peppertree are truly amazing, they are fun, kind, compassionate, and
dedicated to helping Ayla achieve her learning goals.
Ayla has learned so much in preparation for school. She has gained confidence while attempting tasks she finds difficult. She now knows it's not about doing something perfect, or better than others but to simply try her best.
Thank you to everyone at Little Peppertree, Ayla has thoroughly enjoyed her time with you all."
